So did it snow?

About 8 inches of snow fell in Springfield, Virginia, over Saturday night.
This was the view that greeted me when I opened the door this morning.

However, looks can be deceiving, and although we had had around 8 inches of snowfall, as soon as I started shovelling I realised that a thaw was underway. Big wet clumps of snow dropped from the trees, and every push of the shovel exposed wet tarmac, with solitary clumps of snow slowly melting. Of course, after about an hour of clearing the snow from in front of the cars, the snow plow arrived and saved my neighbours similar effort… such is life 🙂

Now at 3pm on Sunday afternoon the road is wet, rather than snowy, and we’re awaiting the big freeze as the sun sets in the coming hours and the weather services predict that the temperature will plummit into the teens! Should make for an icey commute tomorrow morning.
