Today began as an American day, up and ready in “yard work” attire to take part in a “community cleanup”. The idea being to walk the trail that encircles our collection of townhomes and pile all the untidy deadfall for chipping and mulching by the arborists who’ll be removing some dead trees next week.
At the 9am start though I realised it was a peculiarly English kind of day. Rain fell in a steady shower, and the sky was a blanket of ‘April Shower’ grey. It has been one of those days where goretex is essential, and no matter what you do water will eventually drip down your neck.
Our neighbourhood is made of stern stuff though, and a small body of workers strode the trail hauling branches knocked down in the recent storms. Through all this I bounced with a cheerful spring in my step through puddles and leaves, enjoying every minute of it. Sometimes a good rain shower can brighten your whole day!
