Royal Shakespeare Theatre

The “main house” of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (Wikipedia article)will be closing the doors for the last time next month, when it closes up in preparation of a controversial and much questioned redesign/reconstruction and upgrade. Before we look at what may be coming (yet another thrust stage) lets take a moment to look at what we are losing…

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre was designed by Elisabeth Scott (Wikipedia entry) and was formerly opened by HRH the Prince of Wales on April 23, 1932 (archived Guardian article from March 1932).

Click the photograph of the theatre to link to more pictures of the theatre from my recent trip to England. I’ll be sad to see the old place go.
