Remembering the real “Great Escape”

I was sad to read today that Bertram “Jimmy” James, one of the veterans of the “Great Escape” from Starlag Luft Three, has died aged 92. (BBC News Obituary)
The heroic and daring mission that those seventy-six lead to escape from an allegedly escape proof prison camp is well known through the acclaimed film “The Great Escape”, and Sqn Ldr James was one of the lucky few to survive being recaptured as fifty of his comrades were murdered by their captors after being taken back into custody.

As a memorial to Sqn Ldr James and his comrades, the RAF has created Project 104, with the mission to build a replica of Hut 104 at The Great Escape Museum in Zagen, Poland. You can read more about their project by clicking this link. They are in need of sponsorship, and so if you wish to make a donation follow this link.

We will remember them
