A new episode of Hiker?

Many years ago in an unchartered region of the misty backwaters of space a brilliant writer named Douglas Adams wrote a wholey remarkable radio series titled “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy“.  This series was given life on BBC radio in 1978.  A book and an album followed, then another radio series, another book, another record and then BBC made a low budget but critically acclaimed television series.  This was science fiction at its best.

Unfortunately after several more books this great author died.  The BBC worked up more radio series based upon the fresher books, and a movie was made.  I won’t speak too much of the movie since I believe it is a travisty that only came to existence because Douglas had ceased to exist.  If you want to see his vision of the original story watch the BBC’s television series, it is available on DVD (British readers click here/US readers click here) and Douglas even makes an appearance in it. Naked!!!

Today I’ve learned that an author has been tasked with writing a 6th Hiker novel, expanding the misnamed trilogy still further.  Will this be a good thing?  We’ll have to wait until October next year to find out.

will it be a good thing?
No, I don’t think so, the original radio version is the best.

I’ve got a terrible feeling that you will be correct. I agree the original radio series is the best, the original vinyl is pretty good too! Well worth finding copies if you don’t have it already.
